The Future In Brave New World

I finished reading Brave New World and it was on of the most confusing books I have ever read. It took a while to understand what was going on, but once I understood it better, it became a bit easier to comprehend. This book was very different from any other Utopian society book that I have read in the past. I do not really agree on how they make the babies in a factory and place them on different levels of society. I have never really understood the point of being place on a level of society and not being able to work yourself out of their. I believe societies should not do that to their people.
Another thing that I did not agree with was that they are able to take drugs to relieve them from any type of unhappiness. The feeling of unhappiness on a day is what makes the good days better than the bad days. Those bad days make us look forward to having good days later on. Plus sometimes we need to feel unhappy to make us enjoy the happiness we feel. Also, we need to grow as people, so we can not always rely on drugs to make us feel happier 24/7.
Overall, this novel was very strange because it showed us what could happen in the future. It is kind of scary to think about how technology will eventually take over our lives.

  1. I totally agree with what you had to say. This book was also really hard for me to understand as well. This sort of dystopian society is all over the place, and I believe the author wrote this to explain how our society could potentially become just like Brave New World.

In the novel, I believe they were experimenting with the embryos of the infants. However, I do not like the idea of purposefully limiting the minds of these infants. Also, they control what caste they will be placed in, and they can not do anything about it. However, it is crazy to think how our technology is advancing nowadays, and how this could happen to our society...

  2. The novel was very confusing to me as well. It took me a couple of chapters to finally understand the novel. I do agree with you though about why they take soma, the drug, to make them feel happiness. They shouldn’t have to do that.
The book is very strange overall like you say. It’s probably the most unique and strangest book i’ve read.
