Can Audio Recordings Be Manipulated And Used Against Us?

Since we have been reading about technology invading our privacy, I thought I would bring up a topic that I have seen a lot on Twitter and Instagram. As we all know Disney has been recreating a lot of their original movies and/or making sequels. Since the majority of Disney movies are animated and audio needs to be put over them, this brings up the question, who withholds the power to keep these recordings?

The actor whose voice was used for Mr. Potato Man in Toy Story passed away before he got to record his lines. Disney was able to get all of his lines for the entire movie by going through and reviewing the previous movies, video games, commercials, and any other form of audio they have of him.

So that brings up the question, how do we know that our devices are not unknowingly recording audio of us? And if they are, could the recordings be manipulated to say something that we did not and used against us?

  1. With technology becoming more and more advanced, to answer your question... Oh yeah we're screwed. I didn't even know about this, but its simple really. Although it could be illegal to just do that to anyone, the fact that its possible is a little scary. It's always a possibility. We, the general population, are now paying the price for our overuse of technology. There will always be bad people, and because of this we are never fully safe. the future to come only holds much worse dangers.

  2. This is something that I have to thought about as I watched a YouTube video talking about this topic. As you presented it in the blog, Disney used it to make a fun kid movie but what else may it be used for? The possibilities are honesty endless. It could be used for many bad things in the future and it is an extremely scary thing to think about. Answering your question asked above, I certainly believe many things we say or do on our phones are recorded on a daily basis but it is up to the future to see if it may be used against us.

  3. I strongly believe audio recordings can be used against us because there are so apps nowadays that can record your voice and make you sound like a celebrity or even the president but do we know what we’re risking while using these apps?

The companies that make these kind of apps are dangerous because with access to our voice and the information they get from people who use the apps, they can use all of this stuff to manipulate you and even steal your identity. This is just like that app that everyone has been using lately to see how they look when they’re old. The company stores all the pictures they get from the people who have been using the app and with just your picture, like the audio, they could use it to steal your identity or to use it against you.

  5. As technology evolves I believe words we never said can be used against us. Any and everything we do is at a risk of being recorded. These recordings can be twist and turned into an abominable line we never stated. That being said, if are worst enemy felt like taking the time out of their to cut and edit our lines to say things we didn't, they could. We all must be aware of the peril and dangers we put ourselves into when purchasing an electric device because it could be the enemy we never knew we had.
