Should teens be allowed to vote?
This is really a arguable debate. Of course teens would say yes cause teens are going to be teenagers. Most teens will have good statements and facts to back up their points. Then it'll be some teens to say we shouldn't be able to vote. It'll also be people that doesn't agree with this question. Majority of the people are adults or parents if you want to be specific. I think teens should be able to vote. I'm not just saying that cause I'm a teen but I think I have some good statements to backup my argument. Us teens should be able to should be able to determine the future.
Teens should be allowed to vote. I think that teens should reach a certain requirement in order to vote. For example, have to have at least a 3.5 or higher. And must be the age of 15 or higher in order to vote. Also must have taken a little test asking about the U.S to show that your somewhat aware of the laws. It shows that these teens are mature. Some adults make the wrong votes to. Not everyone is perfect. Adults would say teens votes would be influence from others. Well vote is another word for opinion, so if they feel the same way just like the other person then that's them. Are opinions count to.

ReplyDeleteI do think our opinions count but I don't think we should have a right to vote. Teens have little life experience compared to adults who have a right to vote. We are quite ignorant to the world around us, we don't know what it's like to work, pay taxes, bills, and so many more things. At the moment most teens are complaining about school, our parents, and some many more little problems compared to adult issues. Even if we have a test for more mature teens can you say that they'll be able to vote for good politicians? Also so many teens aren't able to see the whole picture and only see things one sidedly, with that mindset do you think teens will be able to vote for a good politician. Overall, I don't teens are ready yet to be able to vote.
ReplyDeleteTeens being able to vote would probably not be a great idea at all. Teens are very susceptible to changing their thoughts and opinions on many matters. They can be very easily manipulated to thinking one way or be easily convinced to another side with a persuasive sounding argument. Their ideas are not as concrete as to when they get older and they are probably not as politically aware as adults as they do not have the same amount of experience as them. Teens should not be able to vote and instead should be trying to fully understand politics on a deep level before they make a vote on their whims and emotions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the prerequisites that you recommended. Giving a test to assess the teen's knowledge of laws and a minimum age limit seems like a good idea. I don't completely agree with the GPA requirement because it's a fact that some people just don't care enough to try in school, even though they may still be bright people. It also may restrict the people who test out of school early or drop out because they would be using outdated records. With that being said, I do still agree that teens should be able to vote (given that they pass the prerequisites) because it would widen the voters' range of opinions.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have the power to vote as a teen, but I personally believe that it would not be the most beneficial thing to do. A vast a majority of us are easily conveyed, without much context given to us. Voting is a vital component to our society that we can't just let anyone with no deep sense of politics make a reckless decision that would impact our lives in a negative manner. In addition most teens think with their emotions rather than logic, which is not a positive look in politics. However I do believe that testing teens would be a great idea not only would it prepare you for the future but it would enable you to practice your freedom of speech.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you having teens voting for upcoming elections. Don’t agree with the GPA requirement since everyone should be able to vote whether you have a 4.6 or a 2.0. We teenagers are America’s future and should be able to vote since it’s our future in our hands. We should be able to practice our freedom of speech and have a voice.
ReplyDeleteQuite frankly, I don't think and strongly believe they shouldn't be able to vote. Many teens, me included, are not mature enough or well educated on the recent news 24/7. I couldn't tell you whats going on today, whats the action on the presidential debates, and i'm sure many teens feel the same way. I see where you're coming from, but taking a test doesn't mean we know the current situations of today's world just that we know how to study. We're too young to have America's choices in our hands.
ReplyDeleteI respect that you think teens should be able to determine our future, but many of today's teens aren't aware of what happens in the political world. If teens were able to vote, they wouldn't make the best possible decision due to their lack of knowledge in politics.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the ideas of teens voting completely because a teen unless the have actively studied the political landscape or has a full view of how a shift in the political landscape will affect them socially or economically should not be allowed to vote. Also putting the idea of a teen based upon their GPA is not the best way to determine a child's ability to vote nor their maturity because even based upon school districts based on curriculum and difficulty the amount of effort it takes to earn a 3.5 in one school district may only earn a 2.5 in another so a student's GPA is not an accurate way to view their knowledge. Instead students should be given tests just like driving to see if they're skilled enough and understand the world enough to vote.
ReplyDeleteI also respect that you feel teens are our future and they should have a say such as, in voting. However, personally I disagree that teens should be allowed to vote though. I couldn't even tell you one thing that has been happening with the president. GPA doesn't define how smart you are, so that shouldn't really matter. We should just stick to the laws.
