On social media websites, it is very easy to spread false information. Inaccurate information can spread rapidly, and before one knows it, everyone starts to believe false information as the truth. The spread of fake news isn't unknown. Almost everyone knows not to believe everything that they see on the internet. Some companies have started to take action in order to solve this issue.
I agree with the debater Nicolas A. Gain. His article, "Facebook, Twitter Users Must Be More Critical Of Content", mentioned certain things that I agree with. His views on this issue were very similar to mine. He emphasizes on how users should be more responsible as to what they view online, and how they obtain that information. He also talks about how policies on social media should be reinforced in order to help this issue.
Overall, I believe that if a social media user chooses to believe that what they viewed on there is true without any extra research, it's on them. Like I mentioned before, during this era of technology, they most likely know that they shouldn't believe everything on there.

I agree that people shouldn't always believe what they see online. People need to control what they do online, because what they see or read can have a bad effect on them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, believing what you see online could lead you on false paths, leading you to create false opinions on things, and leave you with false knowledge.
It's better to just avoid reading things online as much as possible.
While I agree that it is the users fault for not being critical, the problem must still be addressed as it will not only affect that one person. If that person liked the post, it would become more popular allowing more people to see it. If that person shared that post, it could be seen and believed by even more people. While users need to be more mindful, the media platforms need to help take down false, harmful, and misleading information.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of us have constantly been told to not believe everything that we read on the internet. Because of this, I agree with what you are saying. Social Media is loaded with fake news, and is very difficult to control. Instead, just being aware that everything you are reading may not be true until some research is conducted, may help a lot with this on-going problem.
ReplyDeletefrom Nayeli: I think that, to add on to your statement and beliefs further, people shouldn’t be expected to automatically be able to knowledge fake information without being put through training on that subject. I believe there should be more education to be able to determine the fake news from real news.
ReplyDeleteThe media is reporting the bots are out in force on Social Media after the Democratic debates, sowing racial dissension.
