In the article "The undoing of Ed Miliband", Patrick Wintour discusses one of the most entertaining piece of politics that I have heard of. The gist of the article is a synopsis of how Ed Miliband had practically debased the reputation his party, Labour, had helped him achieve through continuous mishaps that would send reporters and other candidates into a complete riot. However, what I want to bring up isn't solely Miliband's implausible story but the symbolism of his story compared to that of journeys.
As I mentioned, Miliband had massively screwed up his campaign with devastating one-liners-a commendable achievement- among other acts. This comes to show how certain people are not meant for big challengers, like the election for Prime Minister, as they only seem to bring down what has been built up. Reading this article reminded me of the situations in which I would seem to turn my efforts into naught because of a single action and cringe in reaction to it. Overall, Wintour's passionate roast towards Miliband provided me a portrayal of how realistic consequences are and inspiration to aspire to not pull a Miliband.
What do you think is the factor that prevents success?
-Ian Jo
In many aspects, we are the only and main factor that prevents us from success. It doesn't matter what challenges we come across, one has to have the mentality that they can overcome it by any means necessary and from there, you're unstoppable.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time, whenever someone comes across a tough challenge in life, they just wing it. In Ed Miliband's case, it seems like he freaked out and instead of strategizing his plan, everything turned out wrong. I believe we are the factor that prevents our own success because the fear we have of failing or of not doing it right, stops us from actually doing a good job.
When I had a very hard assignment in one of my classes last year, I panicked and didn't think I was going to do a good job or get a good grade on it. Due to that mentality I had, I ended up doing a lousy job on the assignment because I knew I was going to get a bad grade on it anyway. When I did get the bad grade, my grade in the class dropped and I was angry, but more at myself than the grade. Fear is something no one wants to have but it’s always going to come back somehow. We just have to know what kind of fear we actually want to have. The fear of failing or the fear of not doing everything you’re capable of doing.
I believe that there are many factors that could prevent success. Money obviously being one of the more popular ones. Some other ones include things like: family, situation, health, and even friends. The list could go on for a long time honestly. While yeah it's true these factors can prevent success, it doesn't mean they always do or that you have to let them. All these are only obstacles in the way of your success. What it all comes down to in the end is you. You have to have the determination and the will to overcome these obstacles or challenges to succeed. While others may have an upper hand, that shouldn't discourage you, it should do the exact opposite. It should make you want to succeed in life because doing so will prove to others who are in situations like you that it can be done. Lastly, everyone has different definitions of what to succeed means in their life. I believe it is important to not focus on someone else's definition of succeeding, and to go as far as you need to go to feel accomplished. All in all, there are plenty of factors which prevent success, but it is your mindset which will make all the difference.
