After reading, "As Robots Replace Old Jobs, New Jobs Should Be Invented" by Garry Kasparov, I inquired many interesting points about A.I.'s growing impact on human lives. I believe that A.I. is a positive attribute in our daily lives because labor is reduced and automation saves time for many. However, this causes many to become unemployed, and causes them to struggle to find an available new job.
I believe that humans aren't weak-willed and will overcome the challenge of unemployment. For thousands of years we have evolved, adapted, and changed our ways to be able to survive in this world. In our race to stay ahead of automation we're filled by ambition and creativity, which I believe is what keeps us alive. After all, machines were made by us and we decide how they work. We integrated automation into our society for our purposes, but for how long will we have control over them?

Yes! I completely agree that there's a chance we can overcome the challenge of being unemployed. Through rough times like the Great Depression, we always found ways to bounce back. It's never easy but it's definitely not impossible. The amazing part about the future is we don't know exactly what exactly could happen. There's a chance A.I. could die down over the years and humans can take over all labor jobs again or the complete opposite. Regardless if that does occur, we can always find ways to change things or get rid of all A.I. If we could create it, we could take it down as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your standpoint on A.I. being beneficial to the daily lives of many for various reasons. Yet, many believe that A.I. could rise overtime and "take over the world", but what exactly does that mean? Could Terminator become a reality? Are we going to be ruled by robots? Could be, and in a way, we almost already are. When you consider how dependent we are on technology for the world to run, doesn't it appear as if technology already has taken over? A.I., I believe is next in line. However, I think we shouldn't fear it, since as you put it, we can evolve adapt, and overcome this challenge.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your statements. Every single time we have been faced with an unemployment problem, we've bounced back and continued on with changes so things will never get that bad again, like the Great Depression. The human race just need to find a way to improvise, adapt, and overcome. Now I do still believe that we need to regulate the amount of people that we replace for A.I so it's easier to control the machines in general.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that technology is taking a lot of our jobs. I believe there are just some jobs that robots can't really take over. For instance, someone like a therapist, sure the robot can be programs to say certain phrases but it will lack the emotion and feelings only humans can give. I agree that even if technology does take over the majority of our jobs, we will be able to recover and find new occupations. After all, we are going to need someone to fix the technology when it is broken or malfunctioning.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point on how AI can be beneficial to society. They can do jobs that humans don't have time to do, or just can't do because it's too dangerous. We will most likely overcome the issue of unemployment when it happens.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as you asked, how long will we have control over AI? In the long run, will creating bigger and better AI cause mankind's destruction? Humans are amazing creatures that have the ability to discover and create.
Scientists and developers have continued to invent fantastic machinery/technology. Who knows though when mankind will overstep the boundary between creation and destruction.
