Although Trump is the president, he is a person too. He should be able to block offensive people if he wanted to. In this debate I agreed with Danielle Citron's opinion that president Trump should be able to block people. She makes a great argument that, "Blocking followers on Twitter is not a matter of government censorship, but rather of expressive freedom to listen and speak." Trump's rights shouldn't be taken away just because it's inconvenient for a person to not be able to follow him anymore. After all, no one likes to be harassed on social media. She also makes another great point that, " No one else's rights are infringed if the president blocks followers on social media." So if Trump isn't corrupting anyone's rights and is just making a decision for his own comfort on social media, it's his right to do so.

I completely agree with you on Trump being able to block people on Twitter. I read this article too and when he blocks someone, he isn't infringing the 1st amendment because Twitter is private owned. However, I do feel that he should be careful on who and how he blocks. He will get a lot of criticism if he just blocks because he doesn't like someone. If he wants to block, that is his right, and people can see his posts otherwise.
ReplyDeleteYes! Most of the time, people seem to forget that the president is also a human. I also think that Trump obtains the right to block and follow whoever he wishes. This right comes to one automatically once they sign up for social media. If everyone else is able to do this on social media sites, why shouldn't Trump? I do think that it would affect his reputation if he abuses this privilege. We may not like what he does on social media, but it's his choice. He can do whatever he wants to on there.
