Technology and the Power it Holds

As I get farther and farther into completing my assignments for this class, it is bringing a common theme that I'm sure we are all aware of-- technology is starting to become such a huge necessity to a vast amount of people. Yes, it is understanding that we are given technology to communicate with others at a fast pace and to complete tasks such as researching information, but we all should be aware that that's not all people use the internet for. It's become such a necessity that there are so many people who can't go without it. Its become such a big part of our lives that everyone must use technology at least a couple times a day. Even work that used to only be on paper must be done online now. A reoccurring theme is brainwashing. We've read about it in Brave New World and that is exactly how they get their society to fall under their ideas. In Amusing ourselves to death, the author talks about how we're only interested in things if we're entertained which is causing us to be amusing ourselves to death. In a way, our phones are brainwashing us because its become something we're pretty much addicted to--something we couldn't go without.

  1. Our mobile phones are quite capable of slowly, but surely, brainwashing us. With Phones, becoming more and more advanced, and with more and more generations starting to grow up with one, soon it will have an even bigger impact on people's lives later. Not only with phones, but i believe all technology feeds into this as well, making us more and more lazier. And the fact that literally everybody of our generation (Gen Z) uses these devices daily! At least once a day, and thats going very low. It is quite ridiculous when we think about it. Soon, with the next generation coming around, while young, they will start to use it more and more. Until eventually, they will interact with their phones more than other people. Technology will dominate as the highest way to communicate, instead of simply talking to one another. And the scariest part is that we didn't even realize it's happening. We thought we were in control, when in reality it is slowly becoming the opposite

  2. Honestly, the use of technology has become so engraved into our lifestyles that I believe it is almost impossible for us to live without it at this point. I don't think we can turn back at this point. Almost everything requires the internet, even if it doesn't, we will find a way to involve the use of it. The way our phones may be brainwashing us is that it is distracting us from all the enormous terrible things occurring around us. Things that we wouldn't know of, and probably wouldn't want to know. We really are just amusing ourselves to death at this point. There is no value to the things we do anymore. There is no benefit of watching cat videos and vines beside us getting amused by it.
