As I've read the articles about the spreading of Fake News, I just sat down and thought that it's not only fake news circling around the internet. There are many clickbait videos and articles where some tell you the actual story in the end but I have come across some articles saying many fake history stories and current events that I have guiltily spread around because I believed they were true until someone informed me otherwise. Remember, you can't spell believe without lie. Well, people post fake news throughout the internet but they also spread them in real time. Like me, dense, believers of these convincing articles will spread the lies by mouth and others will take in the information and do the same so we can't really regulate the spread of lies unless they are given facts but it's hard to convince hard-headed believers. They cling onto what they see even with the entire 'don't believe everything you read' warning. We can't really regulate the spread of fake news in people unless it comes down to debating and presenting facts but on the internet? I agree with Glavin saying that people should be more critical about what they read because it'll 2simmer down the spread of fake news via human conversations and to lessen the believers out there who think everything they read on Facebook is true.

I can relate to the experiences you've faced. I tend to find myself believing false information and then later on, being told that it's all fake. It disappoints me how citizens spread false information. Though, it also irritates me 'cause what is the point of this? What will benefit them for causing this issue? In the end, we are going to find out the truth so why must they bother in trying to do such thing? I've never understood the whole point of fake news.

ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with your point and I see it a lot on a daily basis. You mentioned the word clickbait and I think that is the perfect way to put it. It happens a lot on Youtube- when people put something crazy in the title of the video to catch peoples eye, and then the video has nothing to do with it, or the title is completely exaggerated. My sister always asks "Hey did you see ... did ...? " and then after she watches the video she says "Nevermind it didnt actually happen." Youtubers do it for attention and apperently it works, because my sister just spread fake news.
