Limits on Technology Advances

Our technology made a lot of advances, especially these past couple of years, but I realized that these advances could harm our society. People have been relying a lot on our technology that one day they might not be able to do some things on their own. It could also signify the loss of communication that  may cause a lot of negative effects on society.

I saw this one video where robots are the one doing surgeries on people. It was amusing on how much technology can do, but this worries me because people are putting too much trust on these robots. Technology always have a possibility to get hacked or get challenges of glitches and errors. There’s a lot of things that could possibly go wrong, and I think that robots wouldn’t care less since they don’t have real feelings. There are some robots that are said to have feelings, but it is still limited so do they really know what it really feels? A robot that have no feelings, performing a surgery on someone really bothers me because do they really know what’s in the line?

Also, our technology could also mean loss of human communication. The book Amusing Ourselves to Death explains how television is affecting our country’s public communication. Some may argue that technology actually helps public communication since it allows us to talk to other people across the globe with just few clicks, but this made us talk to the people around us less. Also, spending too much time on our gadgets could also lead to social isolation.

  1. I highly agree with your opinions on this issue. It’s true that technology has advanced a tremendous amount these past couple of years and eventually it’s going to be technology who takes over our occupations and lives at this rate. However, it’s true that we’re relying too much on technology and putting trust on it. Technology is consuming us without even realizing it and eventually we’re all going to have screens glued to our faces. The d=fact that we have robots performing surgeries is insane. You’re right that if robots are hacked and have some sort of glitch that simple thing on its own can end someone’s life. And the robot wouldn’t care because I mean, why would it? It’s an emotionless machine. We’re all going to end up isolated at one point or another.
