With that said, if we think about it how much unneeded information is really given to us through our television and the internet? I'd say more that anyone can keep track of. Postman begins to explain that with all the unneeded information acquired, this tends to result in people making unnecessary scenarios in order to put use to the useless information they have received through telegraphy.
We can easily determine that telegraphy is at fault for creating this whole situation. This brings me to the question, what if telegraphy was never created and never introduced to the world. How different would our world be and how would our focuses in life change? I truly believe that there would be a dramatic difference in the way everybody perceived life and went about living it because of the vast difference in knowledge known by man.

If telegraphs were never invented, the world as we know it would be fundamentally different. Instant communication wouldn't exist, and communities would most likely be isolated, with little to no contact with others. The world we live in today, with its high-speed communications and vast amounts of data, would not exist.
ReplyDeleteWe would no longer be concerned about what's happening across the sea, nor would we even be concerned with the next state over. We would live lives that revolved around our family and community, and how to progress ourselves and the community, and only information that is relevant to this goal would even be considered.
It would be insane. No telegraphs would mean no instantaneous communication. We would be stay in the age before telegraphs for a much longer period. However, we would become better beings than we are today now. Even as i am writing this, I realize. Would the internet exist still? If not, than humanity would be so much different. With today's society so centered around the internet and the devices that use the internet, we would be focused on something else. Each other. With no instant worldwide communication,We would have to be more social. Being socially awkward just wouldn't be a good trait to have, becoming a lot worse than it already is. But without the ease of the internet and instant communication, we would become an even better civilization.
ReplyDeleteIf the telegraph was never invented, many devices as we know it would cease to exist. The way we live today would be completely different. Even the slightest change in the past, such as how a person steps can make a huge impact on the present. If such a minor change can make such an impact, imagine taking out an entire invention; the changes would be drastic. As mentioned by Tyler Bartschi, if we didn't have the invention of the telegraph, we also probably wouldn't be interacting with others as freely as we do today. Not having the invention of the telegraph would most likely have more negative outcomes than positive ones.
