Show Business in my life (amusing ourselves to death)

From first impressions I was not excited to begin reading Amusing Ourselves to Death, because I am used to reading strictly fiction books. However, I felt that in Amusing Ourselves to Death, Postman opened doors to views about our society that I didn't even know I had. One of the main points that Postman stresses is that technology is the foundation of our society. Through time, we cling on  to the newest form of communication to spread news, and as of the books publishment, the newest use of technology was the television. That with the use of the news, politicians, and everyone in between we more trusting to attractive faces, appealing visuals, and catchy jingles. This all made up the foundational part of gaining more viewers.

I found this interesting because I didn't realize how likely I am to look at commercials where the lighting is perfect and the kitchen is clean. Now, it could be advertising a product that doesn't even apply to myself, yet I stop in my tracks to watch the commercial. Postman was right. Producers know the more viewers the better. This is what Postman refers to as show business, which is making everything seem perfect. This same example applies to politicians, who always have to have a "clean" appearance to seem trustworthy. That the visual aspect has brainwashed us. I was shocked to see how realistic Postman's points were, and how much I could see the uses of show business in my daily life.
