Though I agree that a lot of industries are trying to better their smartphones and devices to better suit our interests, I don't agree with the part saying that us the people should dictate what we should do about technology. I have read many blogs saying "If I had the power" or "If I were that smart", they aren't smart enough to manage all that power over robots and machines. Yes, people are spending too much time on their devices for their own good (like me right now) but I wouldn't call it 'damaging' since tech has helped us for decades the instance it was made. The only problem with the tech industry is them trying to 'humanize', as said by the article, devices so we can buy them. But the humanizing is just adding small different things to an already existing device and the advertising and social exposure just makes the rest of want to give it a try. People are easily influenced by the latest upgrades of smartphones because of social pressure of having the newest this and that or just the crushing feeling of not being in the new or not having the better brand of tech. Also, humans and technologies could join as one together since both tech and human are made by people and are given minds that could act out on their own sometimes but one is considered an object while the other is considered alive. There is no hope in saying that robots and humans could live as one due to that fact that many are scared about the thought of a robot uprising in which humans are at fault for creating the super being. Many take tech for granted because all of its functions are under our will and yes, I do agree that some of us are losing ourselves to that power and being separated from the object that gives us that addiction can give us, as what the article says, "internet anxiety." I do agree with the fact that we spend too much time on our devices but the thought that it's damaging to our humanity is the only thing I don't agree with.

Since you don't agree we should be the ones to dictate our usage of technology, than who should? I don't think there is anyone else but ourselves who can make us decide what we should do with technology other than ourselves. For example, when we are younger our parents can force us to do something, but when you are of legal age your parents can't be the ones to stop you. Also, I believe that there's nothing in life you can't choose to do. So no one can stop your choice on how you use technology other than yourself.
ReplyDeleteFrom Jasmine Sohal: Even if we are pressured into buying the latest technology, in the end it's still our decision. It is our choice. If we are able to make small decisions regarding our devices, such as what phone case to buy, or how many gigabytes of a phone we want to get, why aren't we able to make all of our decisions regarding our devices? If we aren't the ones to decide how much time we spend on our cell phones, who should be? The company? A friend? A parent? A random stranger? If we are able to make some decisions regarding our devices we should make them all. Besides, who knows devices better than the user.
