Another claim stated is that they are worried that the technology is advancing faster than humans, which they say will lead to technology having more intelligence than mankind.
In my opinion, we should not be worrying about technology getting ahead of us because we are the ones creating it. Right? Rather than being afraid of our creations powering over us, we should use them to our advantage to help us advance.
I truly believe that if we choose and learn to look at this situation in this way, it will allow us to grow along with our technology. It will settle our worry of becoming belittled and could be the step leading the society and even the world to a more advanced state of perceiving and even living life.

I really like, and agree with your ideas on the advancement of technology. I do not want to live with the constant worry of the possibility that technology could someday outsmart mankind. I believe that technology is as advanced as we let it be. I liked when you mentioned that we should grow with our technology, because that way, we can learn new things about technological advancements, and improve future devices. Personally, I hope that the majority of people are cautious when improving on advanced technology, while still being able to see and understand the benefits that come along with it.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we as people are the ones producing the technology and making it more advanced, I believe that there is still room for potential malfunctions. We can't control everything that goes on inside the basic makeup of every technological item. An inventor may calculate something incorrectly and it could lead to total abomination, so I disagree with your claim. Depending on the situation humans aren't always in control of the technology they fabricate.

ReplyDeleteYour outlook on this debate is very interesting. I never really understood why people might have been afraid of technology taking over us because like you said, we are the ones creating it which means we can stop it at any moment. But looking into the fear side of the argument, I was able to accept why this fear may be brought up. I don't think that technology is becoming more advanced than humans, I just think humans rely on technology too much which creates us to limit our advancements. For example, a calculator is able to solve insane math equations and we rely on them to do that for us. But before we had this type of technology, people did this by themselves using their own ability. What I’m trying to come across is that humans will always have the ability to be more advanced than the technologies we create but the problem is, we are creating these machines to make us lazier and think less. Therefore, it is true that technology will only advance as much as we allow it to. But, using both technologies advancements and ours we can make incredible achievements.
from Jasmine Sohal: Your point of view on this topic is very interesting. Instead of advancing the devices around us, leaving us as "old," we should advance with them, making sure that those devices aren't as advanced as us. The problem should then be solved, but as Ma Khi Boyd stated, there are potential uncontrolled factors to take into consideration. Sometimes situations don't go according to our plans (happens a lot). We should have potential backup plans when deciding how to advance technology and how to advance with it. I also think that there is a certain point in which advancements are taken too far. If we can't distinguish we are humans, or it is to the point where we can't distinguish that those advanced devices truly are a piece of technology, its been taken too far. There should be a certain line to be drawn that shouldn't ever be crossed, especially if crossing that line can potentially lead to the end of the world.
