Having the President Block You on Twitter is Ridiculous

In the debate, “Should the President Be Able to Block You on Twitter?”, President Trump tends to block many of his non-supporters. We all know that Trump loves to use Twitter to tell us his opinions over issues in the United States. Elizabeth E. Joh begins her debate saying how everyone should be able to follow Trump’s account. With the President blocking people, it seems like a violation of our first amendment. However, Danielle Keats Citron thinks that the President should be able to block anyone and should be able to talk to whoever he would like. She thinks that a block on Twitter is no different to decline an invitation.
My opinion to this debate is that it’s ridiculous having the President blocking people on Twitter. To me, that makes the president look very cowardly, and I agree with Joh more in this debate. Trump shouldn’t have to block people, and should just let it go. Also, I don’t agree with Citron’s statement at all about a block on Twitter is like a decline to an invitation. That is two really really different things. Overall, having the President block you on Twitter is ridiculous.

  1. I totally agree with you. In fact, I believe that the president shouldn't even use, or have, his own personal account. Though being able to communicate with the president on a social media site seems great in theory, he uses it as a weapon. Let the press handle getting your "ideas" and "accomplishments" out. The only wall Trump is building is the wedge between people of this country.

  2. I understand where you are coming from, but I also don’t think it should be something to care about. The president shouldnt have to block someone in the first place, we’re just people with opinions and he’s going to have to get over that. Trump blocking us doesn’t mean we’re “uninvited” it just means he doesn’t want to hear or see our content. We shouldn’t be offended because quite honestly who cares. If he doesn’t want to hear our opinions, our truths, then so be it. We shouldn’t have to worry about the president blocking us, first of all as a president, sure you can have social media, but he needs to be more careful with his posts. He should be mature enough to ignore it, just like we should have the right to say our opinions without it leading to getting blocked like a child.

  3. I understand what you mean when you say that when the president blocks people it makes them seem like a coward, but he is still human and should be allowed to have all the same privileges that a regular Twitter user has, that includes blocking. Now personally I think he shouldn't block people voicing their opinions and should be open to listening to almost all of them.

  4. I believe the president shouldn't use any social media, but since he does then he shouldn't be allowed to block anyone what so ever. The whole world should have the right to see what he has to say whether they agree or disagree with him. He signed up to represent the US and should be mature enough to do his job and not allow a persons opinion on him lead to a block. Everyone has an opinion and should be allowed to share it with no worries on being blocked by their leader.
