Atomic Habits Summary

If you find yourself struggling to build a good habit or break a bad one, it’s not because you’re incapable of improving. It’s because you haven’t crossed the “Plateau of Latent Potential,” as some call “overnight success.” Which is really just improving up 1% at a time. It’s not about aiming to the level of your goals but focusing on your systems to get better results overtime. A good form of motivation is when habits become part of your identity. Habits are here to solve problems in life with less effort as possible and when you want to change behavior think: How can I make it obvious? How can I make it attractive? How can I make it easy ? How can I make it satisfying?

As I am personally trying to break free from old habits and develop new, healthy ones, I theorized that slowly incorporating little steps in my routine would be the best way to achieve the ultimate goal. This summary of the reading serves as an affirmation and evidence that my method is correct. More importantly, I really liked how you said "improving up 1% at a time" because it allowed me to grasp the concept better.

  2. Habits, good or bad, are not always a fast process as it takes time to break one or even try to start a good habit like drinking water. From experience, I found it hard at first trying to incorporate much more water into my daily routine. However after many weeks it just became a habit to finish one water bottle per class period.

  3. Personally, good habits seem hard to keep while ugly ones seem hard to break. An interesting fact I learned from your post is that "improving up 1% at a time" is the main focus. Similar to the 21 day myth, it takes time for some things to change.

  4. Personally I am still struggling with my bad habit of biting my nails. Honestly I am not sure how long I've been doing it , but I Know that I need to break it so I find this post very intriguing. The part that interest me the most is when you mention the "improving up 1% at a time".
