Brave New World

The novel Brave New World is very interesting and a very believable plot that can happen in the future. From the beginning it show how a futuristic society is that has tried to make a perfect where everyone is happy wheres they are conditioned to do and want only the things they're supposed ,but they are taking away freedom as in freedom of thinking in themselves. The characters who do think for themselves they're unhappy, so it leaves the question is it better to be happy or free. John the "the savage" a normal human being compared to others echoes the concept to portray civilization as a corrupting influence rather than ennobling one. As in any tribal circumstance there are rules which Johns consumed as in the value of individual strength, masculinity, and is crushed that he is unable to prove to his tribe. This proves how powerful an influence the Reservation culture exerts on him. John rejects teachings from his mother, Linda, who is one of few to show concern for him. This is ironic how he says the city is trying to consume the city, but contradicts himself by his mother died from overdose of soma. A plot twist occurs at the end of the novel which is surprising in my eyes maybe as yours, which may question John conversation with the director. Overall the book was well written and the concept of how to be free or control is helpful by how to be control for your whole life and be like others or be free, different, but living to your belief of truth. --Jesus Irene

  1. I completely agree with your statement about the people in Huxley's novel being stripped of their freedom by not being able to think for themselves. However, I respectfully disagree that this type of mass production of people is realistic.

In the world that we live in today, I do not believe that this process could be possible, let alone people allowing it to happen.
I would never imagine someone to think that this way of life is morally correct, therefore, I could not see a world such as the one in Huxley's novel in our future.

    1. I see why you can't see this world that we live in can ever possibly become to this society. Just an example that it could possibly could happen would be how most people are wanting to have a better life, but are to lazy to stride or risk a bit to receive something better. The soma consume in the novel is basically what people do now and mostly for the same reason when everything falls.

  2. I can see how the people in Huxley's novel do not have much freedom. Most do not think for themselves. This is why I find it interesting when John begins to recite a section from Romeo and Juliet, because from my understanding, most people in this novel do not read literature. On page 50, it shows how the people do not read because books do not help with the learning process in their eyes.

  3. It is true that These people are being forced to get rid of their own individuality for the price of a perfect society, but I don't agree that its totally believable. Although we can't predict what could happen in the future, ask yourself if you truly see yourself abiding by this idea. Could you see every single person giving in to this idea at the cost of their individuality?

    1. I bekieve that many of the people could be the replica of this situation by what is happening now, but not all. Such as Bernard and his friend Helmholtz who contradict on what they are doing and how others think.
