For the 4th law, making a habit satisfying instills the person to repeat that certain habit to consistently feel the pleasure of the end result. No one will repeat a habit if it does not reward any pleasure. Clear uses an example about when chewing gum was first introduced. It wasn't widely popular until Wrigley added different flavors which made people want to keep purchasing it. Making something satisfying will make people repeat it.
Although this book is meant for everyone, my peers and I can implement this book's advice into our daily lives. Students have a variety of bad habits such as sleeping late or not finishing homework. This book can help us change our terrible habitual actions and give us a better life. It's up to us to change ourselves.
Even though you incorporated most of the topics, you forgot to include the long and short term benefits of bad and good habits. Bad habits getting instant satisfaction while good habits giving long term satisfaction
ReplyDeleteEnvironment really does form a person like if a child grows up in a household filled with abusive parents or just terrible influences then they will grow up living with what they have felt and seen. Changing the environment can definitely be used to help people fester good habits and kill off bad habits they may be harboring.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Even though environment has the possibility to affect us, we are ultimately responsible for our own destiny and decisions. However, I don not completely follow the 4th law's example. How do various flavors of gum act as a source of pleasure or satisfaction?
ReplyDeleteThese 3rd and 4th laws can lead to true productivity. Even while reading this blog post I made it a point to put my phone away in order to get my work done efficiently. Doing simple things like changing your environment to set you up for greatness can make a tremendous difference in your work. Or creating good habits that give you a sense of accomplishment so you become accustomed to doing it over and over again can change your life for the better. I plan to implement habits like these in my life to create neccessary change.
ReplyDeleteI agree that both laws can help with an individual's productivity level. In fact, I practice the third law every day when I am doing my homework but I have never practiced the fourth law. Making a check list could possibly make completing homework assignments a satisfying and fulfilling task. Rewarding yourself with something you love once your homework is complete might also work. I think I understand how flavors of gum can act as a source of satisfaction. The flavors can be somewhat addicting, which causes one to repeatedly buy and chew gum. This then becomes a habit of satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteI can see a lot of parallels between what this book offers in regards to shaping individual habit to my book which concerns shaping individual memory. Both suggest strategies and shortcuts one may choose to employ in their daily lifestyle to better themselves in that given field. Just found that to be interesting.
